T’was the night before Christmas, and all through the manse
\nNot a treasure unguarded, nor left up to chance
\nThe stockings were hung in the library with care
\nIn hopes that the Dark Lord soon would be there<\/p>\n
The Keepers were nestled all snug in their beds
\nWhile titles of Appendix N danced in their heads
\nBrinkmans in their covers, Baity in his cap
\nHad just settled their brains for a quick ‘tween show nap<\/p>\n
When down in the stacks there arose such a clatter
\nThey sprang from their beds to see what was the matter
\nGrabbing their dice, initiative to roll
\nHoping for goblins, but fearing a troll<\/p>\n
The moon on the piles of still unread tomes
\nGave a ghoulish glamour of still-stacked bones
\nWhen what to their wondering eyes did appear
\nBut a giant old man, and eight monstrous paindeer<\/p>\n
He whirled and lashed dodging guardian’s paws
\nThey knew in an instant that it must be Nick’claus
\nThe Keepers now knew that they weren’t insane
\nAs Nick’claus called to his paindeer and called them by name<\/p>\n
“Now Smasher! Now Thrasher! Now Trancer and Bloodshed!
\nOn Vomit! On Putrid! On Donner and Deathhead!
\nTo the top of the sanctum! To the top of the stacks!
\nNow mighty deeds, cast your spells, make your attacks!”<\/p>\n
As leaves that before the wild hurricane fly
\nWhen they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky
\nSo into the melee the coursers then flew,
\nWith a sleigh full of loot, and Nick’claus too!<\/p>\n
The Keepers charged downstairs weapons held high,
\nFearing to wait would let guardians die.
\nThe hounds were baying and howling in rage
\nWhile Nick’claus laid out page after page<\/p>\n
Finally cornered with nowhere to flee
\nHe smiled and he chortled, and he cackled with glee
\nHe entered the fray as he blew out the lights
\n“Deadly melee to all, and to all a good night!”<\/p>\n
