Get the Sanctum Secorum #07 Companion on DrivethruRPG
There’s a traveling man the Carolina mountain folk call Silver John for the silver strings strung on his guitar. In his wanderings John encounters a parade of benighted forest creatures, mountain spirits, and shapeless horrors from the void of history with only his enduring spirit, playful wit, and the magic of his guitar to preserve him. Manly Wade Wellman’s Silver John is one of the most beloved figures in fantasy, a true American folk hero of the literary age.
Welcome to the Sanctum Secorum podcast. In this episode, we are joined by author Michael Curtis as we examine the stories that inspired an entire setting and boxed set for DCC RPG, and a legendary piece of Appendix N literature. There is so much to discuss that our format was literally bursting at the seams and so we present the episode with 10 extra minutes of content!
In addition, we have bonus content to bring to your game: patrons, classes, and so much more…after the jump.

Excellent podcast, as usual!
Mr. Curtis is to be commended on the Shudder Mountain/Chained Coffin setting, which is both flavourful and fun. The additional links, including both music and the link to The Long Lost Friend, are valuable indeed. When The Chained Coffin was getting near release, I tried to convince Joseph Goodman that Michael Curtis should sing the song included in the background (Lonely Mountain Hearts? I don’t have it in front of me) as a downloadable mp3, but apparently my evil urgings were’s sufficient to sway the crew at Goodman Games.
The Companion is, of course, up to your usual high standards. Thanks for that! I really feel for you, trying to include elements Michael Curtis didn’t already tap, because I agree with your assessment – the Chained Coffin material contains all of the major highlights from the Silver John stories. I was really pleased with it when my boxed set arrived, and I remain really pleased with it.
Once again, thank you for a great listen, and for a whole whack of new gaming material!
